hi sky pilot
i can understand why your mom would freak out upon seeing you vomit. i hope the meds are now working for you and you are feeling better. thats the problem with birds they mask their symptoms and you dont really know anything is wrong until they are really sick. cats also are very good at doing this. i think you are in pretty good hands if your mom is a nurse and she can titrate your medicine and know if it is working properly. my mom has been working on my beak for the past year with a drummel. i dont like it so she can only work for about a minute at a time. anyway she was very happy with how my beak was looking when i snapped the right side of mmy beak off jamming it between the bards of my cage. it was impossible for mom to drummel the side so she decided to make an appointment with the vet and have it done properly and then she felt she could maintain it. well before she saw the vet she was talking to this bird breeder who also grooms birds and told mom to bring me in and he felt he would do a good job trimming my beak mom brought me in and he started prunning my beak when he looked at my mom and said this bird has an awful beak and then he started peelin off the top layer of my beak and he said and she has an awful smell to her and i am not trimming her beak nymore because it might snap off. so mom took me to the vet after thoroughly washing my beak off with vinegar the vet said my beak was not smelly at all and probably food had got trapped under the beak overgrowth but mom had cleaned it up fine. my beak problem stems from an old beak fracture. the main thing he was concerned about was i was a little overweight and he said i should weigh 420 g not 460. he recommended mom do a workup on me so mom so yes. after drawing the blood he was terribly unhappy and told mom my blood was not bright red but creamy and he feels i have liver disease but will not know conclusively until the test results come back. in the meantime he said not to alter my diet drastically but cut out all things like rice, potato, pasta ,all fatty foods for now. i already get harrisons pellets mixed into my parrot food mixture and he would like me on harrisons pellets exclusively and no more seeds. anyway mom is devasted but until test results come back the vet will have a better plan on how to treat me. once the vet said creamy blood mom did not hear much of anything else. he also said he is testing for hepatitis. we have other birds in the house and they are not sick. mom is holding her own until she starts talking about it and then she starts to cry. anyway have a merry christmas. love cori
