Hi Sky
I will tell you of my fister Brenna's story first. Mom and Nana stopped into this pet shop over the Bridge one hot summer day on their day out shopping. They saw all kinds of birds in cages and all kinds of accessories for dogs and cats etc all over the store. They stopped to look at a Nanday conure in a cage that was plucked on his head and they saw a Sun conure on the back wall. There were several other species of birds around in that area of the store. Mom and Nana said ok they didn't see what they wanted and the poor birds looked uncared for and dirty and the food was sunflower seeds for wild birds and peanuts! They started out the door and the man who worked in the store came running after them saying he had a bird that they might want. Mom had said that she had all the birds she could afford right now but the man said to come back and see he would give Mom a good deal on this bird! He took them into the back room of the store and under a counter away from the light and in a dirty filthy cage sitting on a twig much too small for a Nanday's feet sat Brenna, plucked bare naked, the only feathers being on her head and a few on her wings and she had a long beautiful tail, which was filthy from dragging in the poop that was piled high from the bottom of the cage floor to the perch. Mom and Nana couldn't believe what they were looking at! Brenna had bloody patches on her chest where she was plucking her skin and under her wings were deep gouges all bloody and caked with dried blood too! The man said that he would give her to us for $75.00! Mom said no and started walking out the door and the man chased after her and Nana and said I'll give her to you for $20.00 and Mom thought for awhile knowing she had more broken birds at home she was trying to love and bring back to life and love along with her own birds. Then as usual she felt really bad for Brenna and just couldn't leave her there to die! Then the Mom said what about the cage? And the man said I'll sell it to you for $50.00 and Mom said are you kidding? That cage is ready for the dump, so he sold it to her for another $20.00,dirty and filthy and all. They put Brenna in the car and for the hour long trip home she didn't say one word or sqwak. She kept rocking back and forth on the cage bars, back and forth, back and forth! Mom knew that Brenna had gone insane from being kept away from the sunlight, good clean food and water and human contact! When she got Brenna home, Mom found a new cage for her and made a vet appointment immediately. Nana made Brenna a sweater to cover her bloody body and Mom put hot compresses on Brenna to clean the dried blood off and put some ointment on Brenna's open sores that wouldn't stop bleeding! The vet was appalled at the sight of Brenna and couldn't believe that this bird was treated this way! The vet gave Mom some ointment for her self mutilations and then she was DNA sexed to see if hormone shots would help her,but only if she turned out to be
