HELLO FROM LUCY AND DAISY Good Morning Chantar. What a lovely name you have...a lovely name for a very, lovely bird! We loved your story about how you and your Mom met. AWWWWW! :) We saw your name on one of Auntie Amy's pages and saw that you had asked about heated perches. Now we realize that you didn't ask US, BUT Daisy has one, so we thought we'd tell you about her experience. It's made from VERY hard plastic, so that, obviously, birds can't chew through it. It does not get hot, just warm, so their little feet can't burn. Also, the cord is encased in a thick wire spring and it screws into the perch from the outside of the cage like the additional perches you can buy in pet stores. They come in different sizes based on the size of your bird. So they are made to be very strong so that the birds cannot chew through anything. I leave it in her cage year round, but disconnect it in the warm weather. I think they are great, especially for plucked birds or birds with arthritis, or just if you live where it's cold like we do. I happen to turn my thermostat down to around 60 degrees at night, and small birds don't generate much body heat, so that no matter how much you cover them, they are only going to stay as warm as their little bodies can make them. I'm hoping that Lucy will use her snuggle hut because that would help her to stay warm, as she doesn't have a heated perch, at least not yet. If she doesn't get used to her hut, I will probably get her one, too. The heated perches are quite expensive, usually around $40., but if you check discount sites, I've seen them for $28.95. I'm sorry that I can't remember which site that was on at the present time. If I find it again, I'll let you know. But if you search for "discount" bird supplies or cages, etc., you'll probably find it. Feathered Hugs from Lucy and Daisy |
