Kaytee
The other birds from this clutch were not fed Kaytee formula, and they were all perfectly fine. Vet confirmed that her growth and developmental issues were due to the formula. Kaytee has had problem batches and recalls in the past, but they never became this public. I have 2 friends that are breeders (in 2 different states) that have lost multiple babies due to the kaytee formula. Both had vets confirm, and test the formula. When they contacted Kaytee, Kaytee paid them off quickly for their respective chick losses. Overall, the company has very poor quality control, and very often no two batches of any one product are alike. Not just hand feeding formula, but seed mixes, pellets, etc. I haven't purchased a single product from Kaytee since 2008, and I won't allow them anywhere near my birds. I breed cockatiels and green cheek conures, and use zupreem hand-feeding formula, and have never had an issue like with kaytee. I have even had another breech egg (like Sid, which is why she was an assisted hatch) that had Zero growth or developmental issues. |
