Happy 4th of July(enter pyrotechnic bursts here) Good Day To Ye, Me Bucko! I hopes what ye are a learnin' is that pirates were in places most folks don't think about them bein'! That's why we're P-I-R-A-T-E-S That's what makes the tactics effective! And their purse now becomes OUR purse! Would ye think pirates would be in the mountains? Har Har Haaaarrrr! Yep....there too! The fact is where the main trade routes stretched across the continent, that is where pirates could be found. They even kept the bishop of Narbonne leaving Rome going to France on papal business from crossing the Alps! Them crafty pirates were the Moors!! They're from Arabia mind you. Locals here would say "that be a long way from the house!" In their case, tents? huts? Long boats? That were the thing about the Mediterranean Sea. The pirates were vast & many as well as changing who was more powerful than the other sometimes weekly. If ye had a cell-phone back in the day, yer address book would look like this.... Illyrians Tyrrhenians Greeks Romans Phoenicians Cilicians Gothic Herulic Frankish Saxons Moors The Slavics( which their forefathers would be those Illyrians comin' back to live out the old traditions!) Narrentines Irish One minute they would be at each others throats the next minute they would be in cahoots & team up with countries that were warring with other countries. It was a time of bein' quite confused as who was a bad guy & who was a good guy & who was the pirates!! I'll leave ye today as I can see your eye is crossing & the other under its eye patch, is quivering! It be a hard thing to keep it all straight. I thanky fer yer time & vote.
