We saw your story about bringing birds from the US to Canada. We did the same in 2007 but went to Mexico instead of Canada. And yes, it's difficult to deal with the US Fish and Wildlife authorities for the export papers - takes a minimum of 90 days once you submit your paperwork and then at the same time you should be getting your import papers from their counterpart in Canada - don't know how long that takes. Usually the permits are for about 6 months so once you get the permit, you have some time to do the move.
My mom wrote an article for Bird Talk magazine - the paper magazine and an accompanying story for their internet. If you google something like taking birds to Mexico, you'll get the story on line I think and if you have back issues of Bird Talk, it's in the March 2009 issue. My mom's name is Sunny Snow and the stories tell all the info on dealing with all the proper US authorities for the export papers. You will also have to deal with USDA and possibly others. The list is there. Hopefully all the info of our story of moving to Mexico will help you. It has to be easier to get into Canada than into Mexico and no doubt you won't be held in a cattle quarantine for 13 days with death threats either! It is just a process and lots of paperwork to wade through but in the end it will be worth it to get these babies to your loving home.
All of us except Picabo are rescues and my parronts have rescued many lovebirds and budgies and saved some wild baby doves while here in Mexico. We will be praying for your success. Please keep in touch and if we can help, let us know!
