Toby!
How goes it? Everything chirp-tastic with you? Bet Snowball's having a really good day since he's our BOTD! Hopefully you'll get in on some of the royal treats that are sure to be served up to the King at your house.

About the title "Daddy" and the subject of "babies"... I'm not really a dad. That baby bird's picture on my page is a baby Button Quail, but the special thing about him is that I helped his egg hatch! That's why I'm being called Dad these days. The story goes that the one female button quail we have here laid several eggs but never bothered to keep them warm. The next time she laid eggs (and ignored them again), they were tucked under me while I was sitting in my nest box. Gonzo and I get a nest box for a little while each spring and early summer but because our eggs are replaced with plastic ones, nothing ever comes of our faithful care of the eggs. This time though, we were rewarded for our efforts! Oddly, the babies weren't interested in being fed like I thought new-borns would be. Instead, these babies were up running around, looking for food in just a matter of minutes. Luckily mom heard them peeping and got them out of the nest box right away. I got to be a daddy-bird for just a little while but it was nice to finely have a egg hatch because I helped keep it warm. The babies are all grown up now and running around with the other three adult button quail. Whenever I see the group run by underneath of me, I beam with pride at what I helped bring about. Wonder if I'll get to do it again next year. Hope so!

Thanks for stopping by!
Your friend,
