Hi Pepper
Hoping your W/E goes great. Here's the Saturday blog and a great big hug of thanks for your support. SKY NOVEMBER 3rd
Hi SKY here with " THE REST OF THE STORY."
On the morning of February 10th, 2005 a frantic call came. The woman on the phone was hysterical as she related how I had bitten her causing severe muscle, nerve and skin damage. She wanted me gone, "NOW!"
Cindy George, the lady who ran the rescue left immediately to drive the 5 hour trip to collect me. When she arrived she was horrified at the sight of this young Macaw laying on the bottom of my cage, wing out at an odd angle. Being impossible for her to reach in for me, she collected a large towel. When I rolled over to avoid being caught, she saw my broken, and twisted feet. I was transferred to a carrier and rushed the 5 hours back to the rescue, from where I was taken to a Vet.
X-rays revealed extensive damage. I was near starvation, dehydrated and very ill from the trauma I had lived through for months. I was given the very best of medical care, and I slowly recovered strength, and health. I lived with "Cindy" and learned to trust her, but I never allowed her to touch me. I stepped up after a long time but that was it for human contact.
Due to life changes and sensing I needed more, I was put up for adopt in 2011. Many came but were quickly rejected. One day by chance my forever Momma Deb decided to begin an on-line search for a Macaw. She saw me and it was love at first sight. She read my life's history, and knowing my limitations and special needs proceeded with the adoption process. Many calls, many emails were exchange before she was given the ok to go meet me. Driving the 7 hours to meet me. Because of all I went through, "Cindy" was uncertain if she should place me. That is until she met my new Momma in person. She then knew it was right and I'd be loved forever.
It was difficult for my new Momma to learn to handle me. I have to set up only onto the right arm and must be held by my foot as all but one toe are so twisted I can't grip. My other foot has 3 toes that grip for balance. I came with my own cage, but needed flat 2'X2 1/2 perches to rest on. I needed all my perches to meet at some point in my cage. Over time, Momma Deb learned to step me up and carry me, and life returned to normal in my new home.
Tomorrow I shall tell the results of resent x-rays and their outcome, and share "how I have been enabled to adapt"
A special THANK-YOU to my daughter, and sons, and dear friends for all their help getting out blogs when the server was down on Nov 1st.
See you all Sunday.
with my heart filled with love,
SKY--224183
