Hi, Mackenzie, Yes, all animals kept as pets should having loving homes. More education is needed and training offered to those who aren't treating animals humanely. Seems like lots of pets are turned over to shelters due to folks losing jobs or splitting up their households, glad Roxy found a good home with your parronts. In spring of 2012 when furball was approximately 6 months old skinsis reported that a bird family nested outside her window. She could hear when the babies hatched and obviously so could the dog. One day the dog was let out to us the potty (back lawn, which is what skinsis window looks out at) and after awhile dad heard a baby bird cry and a bit of commotion. He quickly figured out that one of the babies didn't quite manage to fly and furball had it in her mouth! Dad yelled for help and mom ran outside and between the two of 'em (not sure where skinsis was, probably at work) cornered the dog and mom pried her mouth open fully expecting the baby to be dead. It was alive! In shock, but alive! The ladder was out so dad moved it over to where the nest was and mom set the baby bird inside to recover. The parent birds were watching nearby the entire time, but nothing they could do. Whew! Not sure what kinda bird it was, something small, wren, finch, boring brown color. Dad said besides the chriping sound he heard he also saw the legs sticking out of furball's mouth. Sunny here, but cool. Spare the air day too, yuck. Part two of baby bird story next time, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver. |
