Hi Popeye
You really had the pass around in your young years! That was so sad! I am sooo happy for you that you finally got a home with your loving sweet Dad! My Mom thinks that's so wrong when people do that to a fid,not realizing that we are flock members and our parronts are the main part of our flock! And that when we get knocked out of our homes it really traumatizes us bad,it really makes us mistrustful of the next person who comes along! Give your sweet Dad a big hug from me! I'll tell you about Brenna my fister Nanday! My Mom and Nana were over the Bridge on a shopping trip one hot July about 12 years ago and they stopped in this pet shop in Plymouth! There were all kinds of parrots there,Nandays,Suns,Keets,Lovies,Zons, etc! The one Nanday that was there had a little plucked off his head and the parrots there were in fair condition,my Nana and Mom looked at all the bird things, toys, food etc and then decided there wasn't anything they wanted and were walking out the door when the manager came after my Mom telling her that he's got a Nanday that he'll sell her for cheap! My Mom said she had enough birds already,11,and didn't have room for anymore! He badgered my Mom and finally she and Nana relented and he took them into a back room and there under a counter in a tiny Keet cage was this sad featherplucked Nanday who was having a hard time perching on the twig that was a perch! The water was disgusting and smelly, the only food was sunflower seeds and the poor thing had bloody gouges all over her chest and under her wings! The man said he'd sell her for $45.00 and my Mom and Nana said no way and started to walk away! The man said all right $20.00,my Mom said all right and then she said what about a cage? They didn't intend to bring home a bird and it was a long way back home in the heat! The man sold my Mom a filthy old broken cage for another $20.00! My Mom took Brenna home and she was already insane by hanging on the bars of the cage swaying back and forth her eyes dull and lifeless her cuts and self mutilation all dried blood and unattended! My Mom made an appointment at the vet and took her in immediately and the vet wanted to know who did this they never saw anything so bad! Mom had to have Brenna sexed as some meds won't work for males, she did and Brenna was a girl! She had to endure three months of hormone shots to help her grow her feathers back and to stop the self mutilation but they never worked! So My Mom and Nana made her sweaters and t shirts to keep her warm in the winter and to keep her from self mutilating! She loved the sweaters and t shirts,My Mom brought her outside into the sunshine, and she loved seeing the wild birds and watching the world around her,Mom took her for stroller walks and kept her out of the cage all day and she loved being on the playgym with us and we all just loved her! She never chirped much, she was very quiet for a Nanday....
