Hey Pearl and Silver
You know, having the hawk get used to its jesses and perching on a hand sounds somewhat like what people do when they work to tame wild horses. Guess like any wild creature, it takes time for it to understand what's happening and learn to trust.
Yup, I flew the coop for a short time. Mom and dad were able to find me because they could hear me. We macaws have powerful squawk boxes and we can be heard for miles. They would follow me during the days and wait til I roosted at night, get up early before I could take flight and they repeated that for three days til I got hungry and tired and flew to the ground. I had just had my wings clipped too. Mom says I can't go outside now unless I'm in my travel cage. I suppose I don't blame her, I kinda did put her through hell. It's funny cuz Athena doesn't even care if she flies. We are very different, no wonder she's not my favorite birdie.
Lots of warm wing hugs, beakie kisses and a vote fellas,
Mackenzie and Athena
