The Chronicles of The Pirate Pearl
Day 6--What a wonderful day! Wonderful odors coming from the galley and Miss Sugar is doing fine. That was to close for comfort that. Walking in the galley I see Cookie and Charlie sitting there catching up about yesterdays happenings. After a wonderful breakfast I come out to hear "NOOOOOOOOO!" coming from the First Mates cabin. I walk down and since the door was open, peek in. The "Guest Amazon" has torn his quarters to pieces! She's built quite the nest and laid eggs. First Mate Sam is all but speechless. As he heads to the door I wisely step to the side and hide my grin. Then I go in and give the new mamma a hug and ask if she needs any food or water. It takes a while but she says she's fine for now then climbs on her nest. I close the door and head topside to see what's happening aboard and find a wonderful day has started.
I stand to one side as Rigger Casey lets down a couple of sails that need mending and as I'm looking up I notice Punkin mending a small tear on one sail. She's so busy she doesn't notice me and so I walk around noticing that the sails brought down are already being mended by Ike, Pookie, Ipo and Kelly. Can't help but feel pride in my flock as they work.
Hearing that it's Mr. RaneBeau's hatchday I notice that decorations are going up quickly. Miss Riley has outdone herself, but of course, that is to be expected. Then a head sticks out the door and everybird yells "SURPRISE!!" What happy bird Mr. Rane is too. Then Miss Riley produces the cake that Mr. Scion has baked using her recipe. She's got a large candle on it and before anyone sees the cake she's lit it and brought it out for Mr. Rane to make his wish. Noticing the large candle not looking right he grabs it and throws it overboard. WHAT A KABOOM! that was! We all look around making sure all are fine and then we laugh a laugh of relief. Don't think Miss Riley ever knew it wasn't a candle. After she and Mr. Rane go down to eat I hear Quartermaster Tooth yelling for Polly. That makes me wonder where Oatie and Kiwi are. I'm sure they, too, will hear about Miss Riley getting into the powder room. Well, no harm and most birds thinks it's fireworks.
So at the end of the day we are so pleased that Miss Sugar will be fine and that RaneBeau's hatchday was a joyous one. There's to be leftover cake? With all these "guests" aboard? Mr. Scion must have REALLY outdone himself. Thanks to him and his kitchen crew for all the delicious food.
