TEN FAST FACTS ABOUT...FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN!

1) He was born in 1732

2) He was born and raised in Austria

3) When he had matured physically, he could not sing high notes in the choir. The Empress herself called it "crowing."

4) Haydn was a close friend of Mozart (who we did yesterday)...

5) ...And a teacher of Beethoven (who we'll do tomorrow).

6) When he was in the choir at a cathedral, he was dismissed into the streets for pulling a prank - cutting off the pigtail of another choir member!

7) He is known as the Father of the Symphony...

8) ...And the Father of the Strng Quartet for his contribution in those areas.

9) His music is most known for it's "humor (false endings and surprising, loud chords in soft music - see link below)."

10) this great musician died in 1809.
