Our Easter Was Very Quiet Until....
...Mom & her mate were "FaceTime-ing" (I just made a noun a verb...but didn't know how else to describe what they were doing) like Skype but on her mate's iPad. Anyway, just as they were saying they're good-byes, they hear the strangest noise. Not like the screaming bunnies but it was a lot louder & such a forlorn sound! It got louder & closer & scared the daylights out of Mom & her mate at first! They had flipped on the porch lights looking for a cat with a baby rabbit. They had come in again & out on the front side of the porch right AT the front stairs was a fawn & a huge buck!!! Mom & her mate had come back inside & turned off the porch lights but the lights shining from the living room through the big window of the front door lit up the little fawn right at the first step!! It was this animal making that sound! It must have been running from the buck. The buck was snorting & stamping but he never lowered his horns at the little fella. The fawn had already lost his spots but was still very small. Mom was worried it was going to come up on the porch!! That would have been terrible. I'm sure it would have been terrified & may have hurt itself trying to get down. They never seem to figure out to go back the same way they got into a place. After the fawn saw that he was trapped, he walked away slowly as the buck followed him! They rounded the westside corner and were heading for the backyard. Mom hurried & picked up the flood light, so afraid that buck was going to hurt the little one, but she worried unnecessarily. She turned on the light on low(because this thing is SO BRIGHT) and saw the buck & fawn walking to the tree line. It also lit up some of the eyes of the other deer & there were SO MANY staring back. You could see their 'eye-shine'. There were many already laying down & a few still standing up. That buck looked over his shoulder at Mom for just a second. Then she turned it off & went back inside. When she did, she was right beside my cage when she came back in & I told her "night night time!" I wasn't pleased being woke up by naughty fawns who love to run in Mom's soft lawn! And it's only begun to green up! Mom said, "That's what Papa Buck just said!!" That was our Easter! Hugs to all of you! SamIAm
