Hi Zeena
I'm so happy that you had a wonderful time in the castle. Come back for lunch while I'm still here. Maybe we can take one of the race horses out for an afternoon ride.
DAY 11
The Kentucky Oaks is held on the Friday before the Derby. It is a 1 and 1/8 mile race for 3 year old fillies only. It attracts about 100,000 race fans. The Oaks has it’s own set of traditions as winners receive a garland of Stargazer Lilies, a trophy, and a set of 12 sterling silver julep cups. The winner’s name is also engraved on the silver trophy, flanked by horse head handles on each side.
This race is also know as “Ladies First” ( fillies only Derby is the day before the
Kentucky Derby) and “Fillies for the Lilies” (Stargazer Lilies). Purse is $1,000,000.
This year it is on May 3rd.
