Hi Squeaky
What dreadful news! I hope poor little Lima will make it. Is that a normal thing for Toos to attack? Scion had his eye damaged by Picabo too ... right? I hope Scion is doing ok from his seizure. Maybe it was stress from seeing the attack. Hope I hear some good news from you soon.
My parronts were downstate overnight. Now we are catching up on blogs and emails. I will send you the magazine, have a couple more. Do you have a lock for Picabo's cage? I have an extra one and can send it to you.
Downstate was 67 degrees and sun NO snow. So nice to see "spring". The state had a bad t-storm last night. It got rid of all but 1 foot of snow (and the huge piles are here).
Hope all of you have a better night.
DAY 17
In 1875 the derby was raced at a mile and a half, the distance it would remain until 1896 when it was changed to it’s present one and a quarter mile. Fifteen horses were entered that day. The winner of the very first Kentucky Derby was Aristides. He was a small, Kentucky bred chestnut colt. Aristides was initially thought of as the rabbit, the early race leader who sets the pace. The pace he set was so fast that by the far turn he was losing the rest of the field, making an exciting finish for the first Derby. He won $18,325. Aristides is honored with a life size statue at Churchill Downs.
