Hi Ziggy... Jasper here
One thing to remember as a smaller macaw - you may be smaller in size, but you are still a macaw. Don't you ever forget that! You just happen to have hatched as a big bird in a smaller body. Mom has a little story about that and i am sure your Dad will get a laugh over it, but it could have been very serious. A lady came to meet mom, because Mom was going to take care of her Hahns macaw (smaller than you) for a week. The lady was in awe when she saw the birds in the main bird room and made a big mistake. She put her bird carrier down and went around looking at all the birds, ignoring her own bird. Her bird asked to come out several times and Mom pointed this out. The lady opened the carrier door, and the macaw went to Mom and asked to step up. No problem. Once on Mom's arm, the bird jumped straight to her face and attacked. Mom did not panic and got the bird off her face and handed the bird back to the lady, asking her to please put her bird back in the carrier. Mom knew what had happened - a simple case of jealousy. The woman was not fast enough and got attacked herself. She was bleeding - her face, her hands... and it took the two of them to get this little macaw back in the carrier. This is a macaw that is smaller than you are, who simply reacted because he had been ignored by his own Mom. He attacked my Mom because she was in the way, and then his own Mom because she brought him there. The difference in the bites is you have a smaller beak than a large macaw and it can actually dig in deeper and hurt more. Mom says you are gorgeous though - she has never seen one like you in birdsome and she has met lots of different birds. only recently has she had the pleasure of meeting cockatoos, and she finds them lots of fun, but hard to get to know compared to other species. They are the newest addition to our rescue, and we are all learning each day. Well... it was my hatchday today, and I am tired from partying. Dropping you off a piece of cake and some fruit and juice - not too much so you won't have to work too hard to work it off Monday. See you at practice.
