Hi Ritz
Glad to see OZ has stopped to give advice. I totally agree--NO SHOULDER EVER. Lots of Macaws try for the shoulder but it is extremely dangerous having that beak so close to your face. It may be something you need to work on.
Momma Deb blocks us from the shoulder using her other arm and a firm NO! Some of us bigger guys try but if we do home we go for a brief time out.
By the photo Ritz is arm trained already. I would advice you to also perch train him if possible so if you must move him and he is acting up--hormonal etc you have control still. Scarlets have the bad rep as being moody and aggressive so be careful. At 5 he is still very immature but as he matures you might find springtime a very trying period.
From day one set rules of behavior and stick to them so he knows boundaries just like a human child needs. You mentioned wanting to adopt a TOO? Greyt birds but totally unique in all ways. Everything you knew about the rest doesn't seem to work with Toos. They are very demanding of attention, needy but love their human beyond words. I agree rose-breasted are fabulous as are Goffins, lesser sulphers and citrons.
We have 2 Goffins, and a Utoo we are adopting.
Big hugs
SKY and Sarah Little Bird-a Goffin Too
