Hi Blue Berry,
Glad the size information was helpful. It is good that you got a book on doves. Before I adopted Chipper, I bought a book and it gave me a lot of information that I needed to know.
Doves are not like parrots or parakeets. They make a soft cooing sound and they do not coo constantly. It is not a loud sound. To me, it is very pleasant. I would probably just get one. I don't know if two would make noise to each other.
My cage is about 18 in. X 18 in. You would only need perches and a nest. Doves don't play with toys or ladders or anything that the average bird would play with.
I hope this was helpful to you and I hope you are enjoying your dove book. I know I enjoyed reading mine. Let me know if your niece decides to get one. I will give you as much information as I can. I hope this works out for her. I would be very surprised if her roommates didn't like the diamond dove!
Hope to hear from you soon!
