Update on Pepper
Paula here with another update on Pepper. First... thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I know Pepper would not be where he is now, if not for all of you here! Let me first go back a couple of days to when Pepper was doing his best to play with a toy. I got soooo excited, I said to him Pepper you're playing, and he turned to look at me, as if to say is that not what I am supposed to do, and he almost lost his grip, since he only could hold on with one foot, and he slid down the bars of his cage a bit. He got control, held on, turned and gave me a disgusted look, made his way back to his favorite spot in the cage, turned his back on me and pooped. I got that message loud and clear. The best is I have it on film. I don't know who was more insulted - him for slipping and being embarrassed or me, for being told off by him. now, for the good news. I have been taking pictures of his toe daily. Last night's pictures were impossible. At one point, I was ready to give up putting on the bandage - Pepper was squirming so much it would have taken 3 people to hold him and get the bandage on. He was impossible. I sent the vet pictures from the previous day, and the vet called me today. I no longer have to keep a bandage on him. Yea!!!! I still have to continue the massage therapy until Pepper is using the toe almost normally, and then the rest will come on its own. I just have to watch him VERY carefully because Pepper is an extremely active bird. He is into acrobatics and swinging and climbing and you name it. if they had an event in the Olympics - gymnastics for birds, he could easily enter and win. LOL Okay, that's it! The greytest part of all this is I no longer have to fight for 10 minutes to get a bandage on a squirming Grey. LOL Thanks again everyone for all your support. Sending each of you a greyt big hug of appreciation. Now... praying he gets full use of that toe back. He is moving it but cannot bend it at the first joint, which is where he got bitten. That will take time.
