VOTE CASEY PG#225323 FOR OCT BOTM
HI TOOTH. WELL G-PA WAS DIAGNOSED WITH ESOPHAGEAL CANCER LAST YEAR. IN FEBRUARY THEY TOOK OUT HIS ESOPHAGUS AND TOP THIRD OF HIS STOMACH. THEN THEY TOOK THE REST OF THE STOMACH AND PART OF THE SMALL INTESTINE TO MAKE A NEW ESOPHAGUS. HE REALLY DOESN'T HAVE A STOMACH ANYMORE, ITS JUST A TUBE. HE HAD CHEMO AND RADIATION FROM JUNE TO AUGUST. HE WENT FROM 174 POUNDS DOWN TO 130 POUNDS. DR SAID THAT IS GOINGTO BE HIS NORMAL WEIGHT NOW. G-PA IS WORKING ON GETTING HIS STAMINA AND STRENGTH BACK. HE STILL HAS A LOT OF DIFFICULTY IN SWALLOWING DO HE HAS TO GET HIS ESOPHAGUS DILATED (STRETCHED) EVERY SO OFTEN. THIS TIME THOUGH HE IS SEEING A VERY SPECIAL GI DR THAT WILL PUT IN A STENT TO STRETCH THE ESOPHAGUS ADN IT WILL STAY THERE FOR THREE MONTHS. HE STILL IS GETTING USED TO EATING ABOUT 6 SMALL MEALS A DAY INSTEAD OF THREE REGULAR MEALS. THERE ARE STILL SOME FOODS HE CAN'T EAT YET. WE ARE HOPING HE WILL BE READY AND STRONG ENOUGH TO GO SKIING IN JANUARY.
