Hi Chipper--
First thing your Mom should know about finches is that they are flock birds. She should get two! At least! The second thing she should know is that they procreate really easily, so you might want to get the same sex. Zebra finches average life span is 5-8 years old. Franklin was 8 when he passed. Mom's oldest was about 10, and very occasionally they may last longer. Males tend to live longer, since they don't have the strain of egg laying. Oh if you decide to get mixed sexes, you can limit the procreating by not having nests in the cage, but then you miss all the fun of watching them fuss with their nests....they really can be entertaining...they try to pull everything in their nests to line them. We have a swing we made for them, and it hangs from cotton strings. They stand on the swing and try to yank the string off to put in their nest, which makes them jump up and down while they pull. hysterical!

Yesterday was kinda cloudy and today the rain started. It's supposed to really hit us tonight and tomorrow...hope it doesn't discourage the trick or treaters...we'll have LOTS of candy left over if it does!

Stay warm and cozy...hugs and kisses.
