I was SO very sad to read that you had lost your precious little Dusty. He was the 2nd birdie to welcome us to the BC. He was such a beautiful little boy-bird. I can't imagine how terribly sad you must feel. Daisy is flighted, but Lucy is not, only because her flight feathers have not grown back out yet. There are definitely two schools of thought on wing clipping. Nell, who runs the bird rescue where I volunteer, always used to keep all the birds' wings clipped and believed in it whole-heartedly for the reason why you no longer have Dusty. Well, after she and her husband went down to New Orleans after the big hurricane, on a bird rescue mission, she changed her mind. She said the were hundreds and hundreds of dead birds with clipped wings who drowned. She said that had they not been clipped, they would have a least stood a chance at survival because they could have flown up into trees and such. She no longer will clip any birds wings, since it's their chance at survival. My husband has done exactly what you did a couple of times, not realizing that Daisy was on his back. He was just lucky that she didn't fly. Now we try to be extra careful, but it could happen to anyone. I'm just so sorry it happened to you and Dusty. Love, from Daisy, Lucy and their Mommy, Susan
