Hi Pepper
Still mountain climbing
For my BOTM campaign I am going to be using my Star Trek Enterprise shuttlecraft, the Galileo, to take us on far-flung adventures. From the very bottom of Earth’s deepest seas to the far reaches of the Universe.

All of your votes are deeply appreciated. If I don’t thank you every
day its only because there is only so much time in one day.

Dec. 12: Ms BBs BOTM campaign.

OK, every birdie in the shuttle. Ms BB sets the nav ‘putter for K2 (Yes, that’s its name) It is the second-highest mountain on Earth. Once you have been to the highest this is a let down. (Pun intended).

It is located on the border between Baltistan, Pakistan, and Xinjiang, China. With a peak elevation of 8,611-m (28,251 feet), K2 is also the highest point in Pakistan.
K2 is known as the Savage Mountain because of its extreme difficulty of ascent. It is said that this mountain is harder to climb than Mount Everest.
For every four people who have reached the summit, one has died trying. It is mostly climbed from the Pakistani side because it is much more hazardous to reach the summit from the Chinese side.

The first serious attempt to climb K2 was undertaken in 1902 by Oscar Eckenstein, Aleister Crowley, Jules Jacot-Guillarmod, Heinrich Pfannl, Victor Wessely and Guy Knowles. They did not make it to the top.

An Italian expedition finally succeeded in ascending to the summit of K2 via the Abruzzi Spur on 31 July 1954. The expedition was led by Ardito Desio, and the two climbers who reached the summit were Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni.
