Dec. 13: Ms BBs BOTM campaign. Only 12 more days till the big bird in the red suit comes!
All of your votes are deeply appreciated. If I don’t thank you every
day its only because there is only so much time in one day.
You won’t be needing warm coats or rain coats today. Today we are leaving the confines of the Earth’s gravity. We are headed to the moon. Don’t worry, the shuttle is space worthy. I had Geordi La Forge do a level 1 diagnostic on it last night. There are little bags attached to all the perches. That’s in case the artificial gravity goes out.
Humans have left almost 400,000 pounds of man-made material on the surface including more than 70 vehicles. Any birdie want a ride on one of the rovers they left here?
Humans have brought 382 kg of the Moon back to Earth by Apollo and Luna missions. The Moon rocks are now in collections all over Earth. Why bother!! A bird cant play with a bunch of rocks!!!
Look out the right side windows and you will see the first spacecraft to crash into the Moon. It was the Soviet Luna 2 rocket on Sept. 14th 1959 and it was crashed on purpose. Yes, the Soviets were the first to the moon. But 10 years later, in 1969, American astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon.
On the same side coming up is the crash site of the USA Ranger 4 in 1962. It too was crashed on purpose.
The first spacecraft to soft land was Luna 9, USSR, in 1966. Yep, the Soviets were first again! Surveyor 1, USA, soft landed the same year. Many more craft have crashed or soft landed on the moon. Some did not crash on purpose!!!
Apollo 11 was the first mission to land humans on the Moon on July 20, 1969.
Keep looking and you will see boot prints and wheel tracks. There are 7 American flags scattered around the moon. 6 of these flags are beveled to be still standing on their poles. There is said to be 1 Soviet flag here that was carried by that rocket that crashed here on September 14th, 1959.
There are also golf balls from Alan Shepard's driving practice during Apollo 14, and Alan Bean's silver astronaut pin.
Here we have the Fallen Astronaut statuette left by the crew of Apollo 15 to honor the 3-crew members that died in the Apollo 1 crew module fire on January 27, 1967.
May we have a moment of silence for
Virgil "Gus" Ivan Grissom, Lieutenant Colonel, USAF
Edward Higgins White, II, Lieutenant Colonel, USAF
Roger Bruce Chaffee, Lieutenant Commander, USN
Out the left side windows you can see the descent stages from Apollo 11 LM-5 (Eagle) and Apollo 12 LM-6 (Intrepid).
