|Hi Lucky and flock
Good morning every birdie !!!
Geeee!! Do you early birds ever sleep in??? LOL
For my BOTM campaign I am going to be using my Star Trek Enterprise shuttlecraft, the Galileo, to take us on far-flung adventures. From the very bottom of Earth’s deepest seas to the far reaches of the Universe.
Dec. 15: Ms BBs BOTM campaign.
All of your votes are deeply appreciated. If I don’t thank you every
day its only because there is only so much time in one day.
Every birdie get back in the shuttle and strap in. Today we are going to Mercury, the closest planet to the Sun and the eighth largest planet. It dos have a very thin atmosphere consisting of atoms but they get blasted off its surface by the solar wind.
We don’t want to get out of the shuttle here. The temp can be from -270°F when it’s dark to +800°F in the sun, (-168°C to +427°C).
This planet is only 4,880 km in diameter, slightly bigger than the diameter of Earths Moon at 2,160 miles (3,476 km). This also means a 1 lb bird would only weigh 1/3 of a lb. No need to go on a diet!!!
In Roman mythology Mercury is the god of commerce, travel and thievery, the Roman counterpart of the Greek god Hermes, the messenger of the Gods. The planet probably received this name because it moves so quickly across Earth’s sky.
Look over there and you can see MESSENGER. It was sent by NASA in 2004 and it started orbiting Mercury in 2011 after several flybys. Its first flyby in Jan 2008 provided new high quality images of some of the terrain not seen by Marriner 10.
Mercury, like Earth’s Moon is pockmarked with impact craters. Scientists believe the only water on this planet is at its North Pole in the shadows of the big craters there.
Hold on. We are going back to the Earth now. The shuttle lands at the KB and powers down. Dos every birdie have there Earth legs back? Lets go to the food tent at the KB for something to eat. I’m buying!!!
Read more about our space travels at nineplanets.org. This is where I got most of the info for our off Earth trips.
