Kelly...
Hi Friend... I just saw your post from November stopping by Murphys page to say hello. I forgot my password and was having some problems signing back in. I feel awful that it has been so long since I last stopped by. To be honest even though we are never on here anymore, from time to time you and your flock come to mind. You are really the only one on here we still keep in touch with. Your a good friend. I hope you enjoyed your Holidays. Ours was a bit stressful. Life for us never seems without stress. One reason I wanted to get on here was to tell you Mr. Birdie is not well. I need as many prayers as I can get for him, and Me too really. Hes very old now. I got in him back in either 2000 or 2001. So this spring he would be turning 13 or 14 yrs old. He was doing so well up until about 2 months ago. He started having larger stool, losing weight, and moving around much slower and seemed to have arthritis. The Vet who has seen him for many yrs now thought with the extra stool he could have a possible over-load of yeast, which some birds get. I had to give him 2 different kinds of medication by mouth twice a day for a month. He fought me the whole time.. He is very strong and tough and he let me know he was not a happy camper with being picked up everyday to get medication. But he did cooperate and was a great bird and took it for me. For a while it seemed to help and he started to gain his weight back. Just last week I noticed he wasn't eating as much and was becoming weaker and more tired. A couple times this week I thought I was going to lose him. He is struggling with staying on his perch and is just very very tired. He is still pushing himself to eat, but his body is getting old and weak. The vet told me I can start the medication back up and I also started a pain medicine. But this past Tues he was trying so hard to get away from me and I took my hand out of the cage to let him rest and he just layed at the bottom of the cage and looked up at me like thats enough. I stopped the medicine. I feel I was just causing him more pain and stress everyday putting all these medications in him when he is so old and weak as it is. The Vet said we have done everything and her and I both believe this might be the end. I have been following up with the vet often. I have another appt with her tommorow afternoon. I don't know how its going to go. I will tell you..Im amazed with this little bird. His body is tiny and frail but he has the strongest will and spunk I have ever seen in such a tiny creature. That is what has kept him alive this long. The Vet said hes the oldest parakeet she has cared for. I know I have done all I can for him and I dont want him to suffer. I love him beyond words. He has brought me laughter and love. Im having a hard time with this. I know he lived a wonderful happy life full of lots of love, and Im so grateful and thankful I had him for so many years. Thats what will get me through. I was very lucky. Murphy is doing okay. He is very
