Happy New Year Mango! Mine Really DID Start...
...with a BANG!! It began when Mom's neighbor had saved a special rocket that was suppose to have been lit with his finale the night before. He saved one just so he could shoot something off again. As this guy lights up the rocket, it misfires! Instead of going up it comes barreling over to Mom's house where we were all watching from the back deck! There were people screaming, cats caterwauling, birds flying & feathers being strewn all over the place as a rocket came sizzling right through our crowd! Mom screamed as she watched me riding backwards on the top of that rocket & fly off into the night!! I had to hang on for dear life! My feathers were being blown backwards, too, & I sure lost a bunch of them! I finally got my self turned around & had to inch forward as it jerked all over the place!! That fizzling torch that was shooting out the back had me worried it was going to explode any minute!! What a scare this was but I had to keep my head (literally) if I was going to get out of this mess! By wrapping my legs & talons around its barrel body, I would lean hard to the right or left & actually be able to control it somewhat. I leaned hard right & steered it back to what I thought would be my home.

Not long, here I came like a shooting comet, & Mom, family, & neighbors began running in all directions again! That rocket soon started to fizzle out & there was NO CONTROLLING it then!! I held on as tight as I could but the slower it got, the more erratic it became! It began it's downward descent somewhere in the back woods of Mom's property! I saw some trees back there where the Scruffy Birds like to hang out in & bailed as that rocket sputtered past!! Thank goodness Meadowlark & Marty caught me! We all watched until we couldn't see that rocket's smoke anymore. BUT THEN, it crashed into something & a large explosion shook the tree we were in & everything around us!!

Mom was running towards us calling for me. She was so pale!! I thanked the Scruffy Birds & flew over to Mom. We were BOTH shaking. Mom hurried us in because of the big black smoke that was coming up from where that rocket crashed! All the birds had taken flight when the explosion happened except for Meadowlark & Marty Mockingbird. They took off soon because of that nasty smoke. Turned out it burned a neighbor's garage & race car that he kept in there, to the ground!! Those folks weren't even home. Good thing, too, that fella most likely would have been in his garage working like he always is.

As me & Mom got inside the house, we could hear the sirens & fire engines coming to put out the fire! It was a crazy day yesterday! One of the craziest that have happened in our neighborhood since...FOREVER!!

Today, me & Mom just snuggled a lot & are very happy I made it home in one piece. That's why I'm so THRILLED to be alive & able to come say "hello"! Today will be our start to the New Year. Hugs & Pardon the charred feathers, SamIAm
