I apologize for taking a few days getting back to you. I checked my email often to see if there was a message from Bird Channel saying I had a received a new message. Nothing came through so I thought maybe you hadn't gotten to my message yet. I just signed on tonight to Bird Chan to check and saw you posted me a message last Thursday.
I don't know how to tell you. This is not easy but I had Mr. Birdie put to rest last Thursday. The day of his appt with his Vet. It was one of the hardest things I had to do but he was suffering and I didn't want him to suffer any longer. Tuesday night things just got worse, I actually thought I was going to lose him at home. He began to have trouble staying on his perches and balancing. He was laying stretched out with his beak on his toy to hold himself up. He was still trying to eat but his body was giving out. That little bird was such a fighter. I am incredibly grateful to have had that special little bird in my life as long as I did. He showed me no matter what size you are or how tiny one's body can be You are as strong as you put your mind to. He was really amazing. And such a spunky little character. The Vet told me he was the oldest parakeet she worked with. I miss him terribly.
That day when I took him in the Vets office, we talked about bringing him back home and lowering everything to the botttom of the cage and just keep an eye on him, but as we were talking she could see for herself he wasn't well and he was showing signs to her too. She said she gave him a couple days to live and that there was a possibility that I would have to rush him to a vet hospital in the middle of the night to be put down. She is only at the Vets office every Thursday and I thought it was best to let her put him down and not let his suffering continue any longer. She said she wasn't sure exactly what was wrong, but said there was a possibility he had bone cancer. I wanted to be there with him, but the euthanasia I chose which was the least painful for him, I wasn't able to be in the room. That was very hard for me. I wanted to be right by his side but didn't want to put him through added suffering choosing a different form of euthanasia. My Vet said she would be there with him the whole time. He knew her for a long time and trusted her. I talked to him and told him how much I loved him and all the good things Heaven would bring. I was a mess. He was quiet and just looked at me as I spoke and on and off he closed his little eyes. He was very tired and weak at the time. As I was handing him over to the Vet I looked into his eyes one last time and told him I loved him, He looked up at me and let out one sweet little chirp noise. I think he was telling me he loved me back.
He left this world quick and peacefully. I had him cremated and received his ashes yesterday along with a little clay block engraved with his Name, Date, Hearts and his tiny footprints. It brought me to tears when I received it. Its very hard not seei
