Hi CuBird
Your brother Elvis is so good looking!
Okay, a few notes about possums: they are not dangerous, and they will never have rabies or distemper because they have a body temperature too low to support either virus. They are scavengers, who do us a favor by cleaning up our earth. They are the only North American marsupial, so they should be cherished as unique. I know, I know, they have that yucky bald tail and bald ears, but they can't help the way they look. Also, they don't really have a den, so if it's on your deck, it's probably short term residency. They also don't live very long. A possum only lives for 2 or 3 years. They will hiss at you and show you their 50 teeth if they feel threatened, but they will rarely be aggressive. They're more likely to fall over and play possum (look dead) than attack. I hope this helps your mom to deal with the little visitor. Tell her it won't be there forever! Hope you are having a good day, sweetie. Hugs, Falco
