Thanks for stopping by with your vote....Never knew there were as many Tiels on BC until now...Just pecked a vote for you...Nice to finally meet you my friend...Today I will just give a little more information about the cockatiel mutations.Although color mutations are highly valued by some avi-culturists,the inbreeding required to produce unusual colors has actually resulted in some negative genetic disorders, including decreased disease resistance, reduced life span and hatching defects. The lutino or white cockatiel is probably the most afflicted, wit balding on the head a nervous disposition and other abnormalities. The "normal" grey cockatiel is the best to own because it has the most chance for a relatively long healthy life...
Now I will explain what a veterinarian looks for when you take your cockatiel there to see if it is a healthy bird: (1) Dry, Open Nares (2) Smooth Beak (3) Alert, Erect Posture (4) Clear, Bright Eyes (No Discharge) (5) Body Free of Lumps and Bumps (6) Smooth, Bright Feathers Without Color Breaks, Transparency of Ragged Edges (7)Even, Reptilian Pattern on the Feet, and Nails of Appropriate Length. These would be the main things that they will check....Tomorrow I will Tell you how to keep your Cockatiel healthy, happy and safe...Hope you are having a nice day...With many birdie wing hugs to you...Sam :o)
