Ipo lands the mini-shuttle close to Cookie.
His eyes open wide and jumps around waiting for the door to open. When it does he runs in, hugs Sophie and starts looking around. Hey, it's cool. real small, just about 6 birds can fit in here. Wow! can you take me for a ride? *he plops down next to Ipo and buckles up as Sophie stares open-mouthed. She sits down and waits for him to be quiet a moment. Ipo laughs and says, "Sophie's been tellin everybird about her escape" "Yeah, what's with that anyhow, Sophie?"
I guess you want to know what I was thinking when I flew away. She sighs, "I wasn't thinking that was the problem. Mom was taking out the cages for our outside times and I was so quick and landed on her back. She turned to my cage and reached back to get me and it was so pretty and sunny that I just took off! I went way high and never been that high before. Then before mom could do anything I flew to another tree a bit higher. She climbed on the roof of the apartments and called and called and gave me the signal to come. It's a signal dad taught me and mom has worked all winter with me. Well I flew to an even higher tree! She stayed on the roof for so long trying to get me to come. Then I flew to the very top of a very old, very tall elm. I was so scared! I called to her and she brought out water and food for me to get me to come down. She didn't even get anything for herself! But I was so scared. Then a Kestrel flew around me. Boy that scared me! But that wasn't bad enough...a red tailed hawk flew around me too. TWICE!! Mom was sure they saw me, but they went away. Then the wind started blowing. It got stronger and stronger and I couldn't bring myself to let go and fly to mom. When the sun was nearly gone, mom went inside. I called and called for mom to come and get me. She never did and I heard from Ipo, mom was in tears. Well, when the sun came up, all the birds were calling and flying so I did too. I had some fun but most of the time I was so scared. Mom kept ringing my bells and calling and doing all the right things but I was scared. I was so happy when she was called and came and got me. She did trim my wings so I can't get good height now. Oh, yeah, she just got me a flight harness just a few days before I took off. Yeah, we'll be working hard with that now.
Better take off now. Mom sent Ipo with me. I don't think she trusts me. Well, see ya later.
