Hi Aunt Samantha
I really missed you while your folks were gone. It's good that you have the flock to comfort you. How are mom and dad doing? I bet they had a ball with Dixie's mom and dad. What's really funny is how much alike your dad and Dixie's dad look! They could be twins! We hope to see some pics soon.
Mom gets her third shot next Monday, then they will reevaluate the eye. She is hoping they let her get the cataract surgery. One of her pool friends brought a pair of sunglasses to the pool for her to try. They are sunglasses at the top, but have a bifocal magnifying lens so she can read the Nook while she is there. They worked yesterday, so mom is hopeful they will keep on working until she gets a proper prescription.
This morning mom got all her animals done quickly, she had the raptor aviaries, the flight cage, and the RVS cages which are currently housing the coyotes and foxes. She was happy to have them done in a little more than an hour so she could field calls from the desk. The phone was ringing off the hook today! And, right after she got done with all those outdoor cages, it started to rain really hard, so she didn't have to get wet. Mom fielded some odd calls this morning. One person called to ask if she could identify a bird over the phone! Mom listened patiently then asked the woman if she had internet, and could possibly look it up. The woman answered that she had no access, so mom asked if she had a field guide to birds. Again the woman said no. Mom tried to explain that there was no way for her to identify a species over the phone, but she just kept describing the same characteristics, which could have applied to any number of brown birds! Finally mom thanked her for her interest, but stated that she was tending to animals and had to hang up the phone, at which point the woman asked her if she was afraid to get bitten!!!! People sure are strange sometimes. Another call was about a falcon sitting on a pavilion roof in a park. Mom explained that birds do land and sometimes tuck a foot up to rest a bit, so the guy said he was going to try to startle it into a reaction. Mom told him not to, but isn't sure he listened. In the meantime, in her 45 minutes that she fielded calls, she admitted 11 animals! 8 mallards, a bunny, a starling, and a robin. They have admitted over 950 animals so far this year.
On another note, the guy mom trained last week signed up for 3 days of reception duty this week! He's enthusiastic and seems to like it. This is great news!
Mom met a couple of old friends for lunch after her shift, and now she's stuffed and getting our blogs done at last. Hope you are having a good day and seeing some great weather and cuddles coming your way. Hugs, Peppino
