Hi Sweetpepper
I hope Gpa is okay. How is mom's back?
What a day today! Mom worked at the center this morning, doing the small flight aviary and the main aviary. Now that the weather is warmer, the main aviary has completely opened up, so it's a huge space. There are lots of hanging branches, standing perches, hide boxes, loose branches, hanging ropes, grapevines, etc. that all need hosed and cleaned, not to mention varied diets, water dishes, and baths that need to be prepared. They also added a rolling fledgling aviary to the space so the little ones can make their way in and out and mingle with the adult birds. Mom couldn't get an exact count today, but thinks there were between 16 and 20 birds in there. Most of them (adults) will be released tomorrow. In the small flight aviary the baby hawks are being housed with Maxina, their new foster mom. You might remember Maxina from Willie's campaign for BOTM. She's an adult red tailed hawk who has been an education animal for a few years now, as she lost her feather follicles on one wing, so her flights can't grow back in. She is a good foster mom for baby RTHs though, just like Martha is for the Great Horned Owls.
Then mom did her errands, came home, changed, and dashed to the pool. She got almost 2 hours there before the skies got dark and the thunderstorms came through again. The consolation is that the arts festival will be closing Sunday, so next week should be bright and sunny all week long, heehee.
I hope you are having a wonderful day filled with sunshine and scritchies. Hugs, Falco
