Did you know that it’s not against the law to slaughter dogs and cats for human consumption in Pennsylvania? While instances of this happening are rare, we know you’ll agree that there needs to be a law on the books to prosecute anyone who kills dogs and cats for food.
Thankfully, a bill to do just that is making its way through the General Assembly. H.B. 1750 was passed by the House unanimously in November, and then it went to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which made the bill even better for animals by adding language to ban live pigeon shoots—barbaric, unsporting events where dazed pigeons are launched from boxes to be shot as target practice or for prizes.then small children are sent out to retrieve the still living but injured pigeon and instructed to pull their heads off. The Senate is expected to vote on this amended bill in the next few days, and then it will go back to the House to approve the newly added pigeon shoot ban.
We’ve been fighting for years to ban pigeon shoots, and we now have a golden opportunity to get it done, but we must act immediately. Please help us put a stop to both of these forms of cruelty by urging your state senator and representative to vote YES on H.B. 1750.
Please visit the ASPCA Advocacy Center to quickly contact your state senator and representative in Harrisburg.
Thank you, Pennsylvania, for speaking up against horrific animal cruelty.
