Grover passed away this morning
I wish to thank all of you for your kind words. It is a bitter sweet for Grover to have left me this morning. He was suffering for the last couple of days. I knew he was going to go as of last night because his breathing was heavy and slow, he wouldn't eat or drink or even go to the bathroom. I gave him a kiss and he clamped his beak on my lip as if to say "just leave me alone". I put him in a dark spot (my dresser drawer) with where he could die in peace (no cats or people bothering him). I checked on him a few times to see if he wanted anything but he just looked at me as if to say again that he just wanted to be left alone. This morning I checked on him before I went to work (driving school bus), he was awake but pretty much motionless, I offered him water and he just didn't want any. I put him back and went to work. As soon as I got home around 8 am, I checked on him again. He was still alive and still motionless. I picked him up and found that he just couldn't do a thing. I offered him water again but he just turned his head away. I held him to my chest and that is when he took his last breath. For the last couple of days I begged he would go, I knew he hurt and it was very hard for him to get to his food and water but I couldn't put him out of his misery because his will to live was so alive. I am glad he is out of pain now. I am going to miss him greatly. I will be doing a memorial for him soon, but first I must pull myself together. I took pictures of him last night. I have never known a bird to suffer like he has. I have had a few of you ask if I had taken him to a vet and I answered a few of you, for those of you who I did not answer, I am sorry. The answer is yes, I did, but because of his age, they couldn't do anything. His tumors grew and got in the way of existing organs which is why he was in pain. Well, thank you again.
