A note from Ben's mom
Well, orange-wings are known as the more laid-back Amazons. However, they still have that strong Amazon personality. Each bird has its own personality, but some of the characteristics are the same in all of them. Amazons will take any chance they can to assert themselves as the boss of the family, so remember this if you reach for Tango to step-up and Tango refuses. Don't back down, just keep repeating the command, and Tango will eventually realize that you are the boss. Do this in all situations. Amazons can be very vocal when they want something and they don't get it right away, such as during meal preparation. I always give Ben a small toy to keep himself busy while I prepare his fruits of veggies. Also, I've noticed with Ben that when things get hectic around the house, he kind of gets over-stimulated and very loud while flapping his wings. I bought him some baby books and will sit down with him and read the books quietly...this seems to really calm him down. That's all I can really think of at the moment. Just remember, Amazons love to be a part of whatever is going on, and they will let you know when they feel left out. They are goofy birds that love to entertain, so just let Tango be Tango. If you have any questions, ask. I found things out through asking a lot of people because Ben is my first large parrot, and like me, I'm sure you want to get everything right with Tango. It sounds like you are doing a great job!
