Hi Norbert!!
You've got a really special mom. My mom thinks so much about being a rescue mom or foster parent. She would really like to do that but having to work full time and support the 3 of us and a house payment etc. its all she can do to take care of us. Yes, she wanted one more bird in our flock. She wanted a Green winged macaw. But then Charlotte my Blue and Gold Macaw ( we thought sister but turned out brother) started plucking. Mom had every test possible done on him and tried various medicines but nothing has worked. So mom thinks that she can't give the 3 of us enough attention to make us happy and content so that is the end of it. No more parrots. If she didn't have to work, it would be a different story. My mom is much much older than yours. My mom is 50. But she's always been an animal lover. After my dad got out of the Marines many years ago the only job he could find was at a local zoo. Mom and Dad ended up taking care of a lot of exotic baby animals and even raised their own baby cougar from the time he was 4 hours old. Like I said, Mom should have been a vet. But she ended up being an RN because she wanted to marry my dad. It only took 4 yrs to get a BSN instead of 8 plus yrs to be a vet. So here we are. Just tell your mom that she can be or do anything she wants. We have a feeling that she is a really great person and can do anything she wants to.
As far as the thyroid problem goes, No, I never had a weight problem associated with it. My feathers cleared up for awhile, but just lately mom has been noticing some black markings on my feathers which is really worrying her. Mom thinks we are picking up on her stress which is basicly job related. It does take a special person to be an RN. It takes a special person to be a doctor, dentist, Zoo ologist, mother, friend, etc. Mom says everybody is special! Everybody has their own talents. She just has a special place in her heart for anyone who loves parrots, old people, or animals in general. Norbert, you've got a good mom. You're blessed! She's blessed to have you! Love Alex
