Hey Buddy
Speedy's mom here. Hm... about the molting, usually Speedy molts in the spring, but I have other birds that are molting now. Some of my birds molt pretty dramatically, and look pretty ratty, but they do that every time they molt. Is this molt worse than his usual molts? Usually when Speedy molts, he doesn't lose enough feathers all in one spot at one time so his peachy feathers and downy feathers show. He'll have tons of pin feathers, but usually a few normal feathers in between. Do you know Bella? She's another goffin on the BC and she's molting pretty heavily right now, too. Buddy's not plucking, is he? Speedy started plucking last year, but it was an allergy to the coloring in his pellets. Buddy's not going through any stress, is he? Any changes in the house? Vitamins might help, and there is powder you can by from Foster's & Smith that helps with molting and feather growth. But you have to change the water fairly frequently to keep the slimy stuff from building up. Do you guys have an avian vet? It's so hard to tell with birds if something is wrong cause they hide it if they aren't feeling well. But I'd keep an eye on him. If he's plucking all of a sudden, or losing more feathers than he usually does during his molts, I'd take him to the vets. Keep me posted, okay? I'll be thinking about him. V4u.
