Buddy's Story.
Buddy is a Moluccan Cockatoo who, prior to coming to his forever home, had 3 owners. Buddy was brought to a veterinary office where his mom’s daughter works.
Buddy was a trained bird in an amusement park. He was the star of a Pirate Show. He had started having feather plucking issues so he was retired from show business. Buddy’s new mom, Kathy, learned about Buddy and bought him. Kathy took him to the vet for a full examination and discovered the he had a tumor around his uropygial gland and vent. The pirate charged Kathy $1,000.00 for Buddy and promptly left town after he received the money. The pirate was never heard from again. As time went on, Buddy had good days and bad days. He would go for a time with no chewing or plucking but would start again. Then, one day in August, Buddy started chewing again. This time, quite badly. Kathy tended to Buddy and everything seemed ok so she put Buddy in his cage for the night. The next morning, Kathy found that Buddy had chewed overnight. This time, quite badly. Kathy rushed Buddy to the vet but unfortunately, Buddy was in shock and there was nothing that could be done. Buddy passed away in Kathy’s arms.
Although we did not visit as often as we should have, Buddy was my friend. Buddy and I were much alike. I, too, plucked and chewed. But, I have overcome the chewing and no longer pluck. Many, many birds and humans on the Bird Channel loved, and still love Buddy dearly and miss him terribly. Buddy is now at the Rainbow Bridge and is once again healthy and happy and without pain. But I’m sure that Buddy misses his mom and all his friends dearly. “Buddy, fly high my friend, fly high and free”. We will all be together again. I promise. I love you, Buddy. Your friend, Popeye.
