RESULTS OF GAME 5
CAGs VS. ZONS, BATTLE OF THE GREAT RIVER BIRDIES, GAME 5. With the series tied at 2-2, both teams came to play. Poirot and Pickles had opening hits for the CAGs but were left stranded by the Zon defense. Zon Otis opened things up for the Zons with a triple followed by hits from Aries and Andre to score 1 run. The CAGs tied the game with Mowgli, Grady and Gizmo combining for a run in the 2nd. Casey and Mrs. Beasly’s hits would load the bases for the CAGs but were unable to score big. The tie was short lived when the Zons had 3 singles from Bluebell, Knuckles, Stubby and the birdies scored when BabyGirl hit a grand slam HR. The Zons were not done, scoring another run when Gunner hit a HR and Asha, Ben, Ethyl and Echo combined for 2 more to make the score 7-1. In the 3rd, the CAGs would get 2 back with a single from Robbie and Poirot’s HR into right field. The Zons would score 1 run when Poco scored after Fred hit a triple. The explosive CAGs offense started the 4th with a HR from Fawkes and then loaded the bases again with singles from Mowgli, Gizmo and Grady but were denied the big inning with 3 quick outs by the Zons defense. The Zon offense would come right back and score 5 more run with hits from Kiwi, Knuckles, Asha, Babygirl, Ben and Maxie to make the score 14-5. In the 5th, the CAGs would score two runs with hits from Pepper, Robbie and Katie but the Zons came right back with 3 of their own with singles from Echo, Andre, Aries and Fred and a triple from Poco. CAGs Poirot and SweetPea would combine for 1 run and Fawkes, Mowgli and Pepper would load the bases only to be denied the big inning again. The Zons added to their lead with back to back HRs by Asha and Stubby to make the score 19-7. The Cags would score 2 runs in the 7th when Gizmo scored off of Picasso’s HR and their defense held the Zons scoreless. Needing a big offensive inning, the Zons would score 3 runs with 6 straight singles from Katie, Amanda, Poirot, Pickles, Fawkes and Mowgli and for the 4th time in the game had bases loaded and could not capitalize. Zon batters Andre, Kiwi, Fred and Ethyl mangaged just 1 run with the score 20- 12 going into the final inning. Gizmo and Picasso would score when Casey hit a HR to bring the CAGs within 5 of the Zons but the bats shut down for the CAGs. Final score: Zons 20, CAGs 15. Zons lead the series 3-2. Game 6 will be Friday.
