Zizi is starting to show real signs that she's about to lay some unfertilized eggs.
For several months now, she will edge up to me and assume the female lovebird mating position, alluring me to mate with her. It's clear that she wants to breed, and her instincts are very strong. I usually ignore this little demonstration, because there's not a lot I can do to satisfy her. It does, however, provide the perfect opportunity to check out her flight feathers. She had them clipped about 10 months ago or so, before I brought her home.
So I will give her a head massage to help with the pin feathers, and take a moment to observe her lovely flight feathers.
I had hoped that this behavior would slowly disappear if I discouraged it, but she hasn't stopped. In fact, it is all she ever does when she is out of her cage, making any other interaction difficult. So I indulge her a bit, because I don't know what else to do.
A few days ago, though, he tummy started to swell. Naturally, I was alarmed, and examined her a bit. It was a little firm and a little soft, and I figured she was going to lay some unfertilized eggs.
Each day the bulge is growing and she is becoming more and more docile, slow to move, and aggressive. She is also having digestion issues. Her vent is sometimes soiled and I have to clean it off, because she is experiencing a mix of diarrhea and constipation.
I sure hope everything turns out allright, because she is my little princess.
