Hello Sweetie!
Mama took Pringle to the vet this afternoon. It's a tiny office and our vet was out on a call but would be back shortly. The specialist ( an old friend of our vet) , who our vet had called in, arrived and looked at her right away. Mama held Pringle while the specialist took a sample of her skin to look at under a microscope. In the meantime our vet arrived and told this specialist was one of the top pathologists in the world and worked specifically with birds. He also jokingly told us that he normally worked with dead animals. It turned out her skin problem is caused by something internal since he couldn't see anything on the skin. After a lot of discussing and getting Pringle's history, both vets came up with the conclusion that she probably has liver or kidney problems. They also think she has a secondary infection, so she is back on antibiotics. While they were discussing this, the specialist called an avian vet and confirmed his suspicions with her. She said to also try medicine for Giardia. She has three different drugs to take, including something for the liver/kidney problem. They also want her to start eating Harrison's pellets and since the amazon that lives at the vets eats the same thing, they gave us some of his pellets to get started. She still has to have stuff put on her skin too. Now we have to wait a couple of weeks to see if things get better. I'll try and get back to you properly tomorrow. Poirot
