Hello Hahnsy
I see you like to have a bare belly and legs. I'm a hahns, 3 years old, and this winter, on only the second day of having the furnace on, I couldn't stand even the slightest little bit of dry skin, so I pulled half of my front feathers and off my legs, but I left my gray down feathers on my chest. My mommy uses Organic Red palm oil on me and she says it works great for getting the new feathers back. She learned this trick from the "man with the birds", from Pittsburgh, who has taken in over 60 abused and birds needing homes. He had a catalina macaw with a totally bare belly and part of its wings and legs and this is how it is now fully feathered again. The oil is also good, if taken internally also. But putting it on everywhere else, also tends to make the bird lick it, so it gets it internally one way or another. If your bird has a bird sack it sleeps in, then put it on the bird in the morning. The oil stays on, unlike organic aloe vera juice, which is also good, but doesn't stay on and really keep the skin moist, so the itching new feathers aren't wanting to be plucked as they come in, especially since it takes so long for them to come in in the first place. I got out for 4 days and since then I'm a little nervous about watching my surroundings all the time too. Outside life really wasn't all it was cut out to be, I'm happy to be with my mommy and the other flock, greatful really. You'll adjust, just give it time. It's so much warmer though if you at least have your downs. Here's to growing them good hahnsy!!!! I'd send you some of my feathers, but I promised mommy I wouldn't pluck them anymore!! (Lulu) and gang.
