`Ü´Ruby & Her Mr Rio ® on a Titanic Adventure~Pt 3 As Rio and Ruby make their way to the First Class Dining Salon, Ruby points out several of their fellow ship’s passengers and enlightens Rio on their respective positions in the social echelon, their claims to their fortunes—inherited or acquired (both earned and stolen), their individual claims to fame if any, and any skeletons in their family closets (who’s doors apparently stand wide open in some cases). …In other words, the juicy gossip. ~~ As the 1st class passengers are summoned to dine, Mrs StubbMeister joins Rio and Ruby and the three parrots are seated at a table with, of course, Romeo and Ruby’s mother, Sir Cosmo and Lucile—Lady Duff-Gordon, Benjamin Guggenheim (and his mistress *Shhhh*) Madame Aubert, Bruce Ismay (the Managing Director of the shipping company that owns Titanic), Archibold Gracie, and Pico AndBoos (Managing Director of the shipyard that built Titanic, and one of her main designers). ~~ Ruby’s mother **** as DISTINCT from Ruby’s MOMMA! **** (a social empress from one of the most socially prominent flockilys of the day; a woman who ruled her household with an iron will, she was intolerant of Ruby’s rebellious nature), COULD be counted on! In her most charming effort to include even the 3rd class, steerage passenger in the dinner conversation, she began with, “Tell us of the accommodations in steerage, Mr. Feather Duster. I hear they’re quite good on this ship.” Rio, being already well travelled and wise in the ways of the world even at his tender age, made it clear that he was quite satisfied with this Titanic voyage; its accommodations, its fit to his parrotsonal life style and talents, not to mention his good fortune at destiny having served his purposes in providing his ticket. ~~ Again, Ruby’s mother was not to be denied her intention. “You find that sort of rootless existence appealing, do you?” |
