Why my beak is so shiny, by Turtle Bird
If you want a shiny beak, do what I do: when your humans give you kisses, rub your beak all over their noses! My Mom's nose is kinda oily sometimes and I find that makes a nice beak polish! (I don't know why she thinks this is so funny, but other people have suggested Turtle Wax). I love to take showers! My Mom used to spray me with a mister, but now I just wait for her to hold me up to the spray, so I can walk in and out of the water on her hand. It's great! But I won't let her towel me off--that would ruin the nice punky spikes I can get my feathers into, and I think I look pretty cool that way. So I just air-dry. Too bad I can't put some gel in, 'cause I'd love to keep my Mohawk. I used to take a bath in my drinking water but then Mom went and put in a water bottle and now I have to take showers. I tell Mom how much I like it by whistling, and she says it's flattering to be whistled at in the shower, though I'm not sure what she means. Silly humans! Manzanita trees are pretty great, but I like to climb on Mom better!
