Hi Freda
The story about my move from England to Florida is a long one but I will try to make it less so. Even so I will do it in installments. Yes, I did have to be in quarantine for 30 days. First of all you need to understand that my Mom had a CAG before me. His name was Pete. Back in 1983 the company she worked for sent her to the USA to work for a year. She brought Pete with her and he died in quarantine of starvation. At that time the quarantine centers had to feed the parrots a special pellet mix that was medicated. Pete wouldn't eat it but the staff didn't pick up on it until it was to late. So you can imagine how she felt about me having to be in quarantine. She even considered finding me a new home in England but Dad said that we were both so bonded to each other neither of us would be happy. So he said to start checking it out and see how she felt. She had to start the import process about 8 months before we were to move. That is how long it takes to get all the permits, export/import licences and so on. Then there was finding and working with a UK animal export company that would deal with flying me over and an animal import broker in the US. All the complicated paper work has to be absolutely correct, all the fees paid and so on before I was flown over. If it wasn't the USA government would have confiscated me and Mom would never have seen me again. She also spent ages on the phone talking to the two quarantine centers where I could go. One was in Miami and one in New York. She explained to them about Pete and then hit them with loads of question about what I would be fed, my cage size, conditions, could I have toys and so on. To be continued ...... MM
