A "Hi" Back from Kelly
Here I went and told you my mom was ready to head up your direction and then she ended up spending the evening with me after all. Our driveway and road were already glazed over with a thin sheen of ice by the time mom needed to depart and not knowing how much worse it could get as the evening progressed she thought to not risk an accident and stay home. I believe last year's club party was missed because of weather. She was bummed about missing it again.
You mentioned that Suns can be pushy. In my grey-matter opinion, I believe that description applies to all conures in general. There's honestly a whole lot of push and shove around here now that we've been inundated with the species. The dynamics of the quad seemingly changes every week. Sometimes it's Kirby the GC running Riza and Jensen (the sunnie & jenday) off the island tree, next it's Riza telling Zorro he can't eat out of a certain bowl. I don't particularly care who's doing what because it doesn't generally effect me. There was this one incident though; a literal run-in with Jensen (the Jenday). For some reason, likely a major case of jealousy) that bird is determined to take me down. Forgetting that the crazy conure is a Grey-seeking missile, mom set me down on his play table. Within seconds that bird was off the perches and rampaging his way towards me and before I realized what was coming, he hit me square in the chest and knocked me over backwards off onto the floor. It happened so fast I wasn't able to break the fall with a flutter of the wings. That's not the only time that little bugger's taken me on. I've been on mom's hand and had that imp zip around behind her neck and down her arm with such speed there's no time to come up with an escape plan. That time I hit the floor with a Jenday attached to my back. While he didn't do any damage to my skin, he managed to ruffle a few feathers. Needless to say, I'd just as soon not hitch a ride on mom if that mad character's on her anywhere. I'm not the only one he has a passion for killing. He's been a leech on Rainbow's back a couple of times. Lucky for the foolish little feller, neither R nor I have murderous retaliation plans. But the Shebs... if he pulls that trick on HER, I'm fairly sure she won't find any humor in his behavior. For some unknown reason he shows absolutely no animosity towards Alfie the DYHA. Maybe it's because mom never gets to hug or kiss on that bird. Jensen's attacks seem to be aimed at only us bigger birds who like hands-on, up-close attention from mom. I'd say he has major issues with sharing!
Okay, now that I've prattled away for ages, I suppose I'd best let you go. Good luck with the Red Princess and the betrothal of friendship that's been put in your future. Your approach of speaking in complete sentences to bring mom's attention back to where it belongs is a capital idea. Here's to you and your grey matter! K
