Hi Kiwi!!
Apollo here! Thanks for visiting me back! You are so sweet. :) So you are getting an African Grey as a flock mate? Well, let me share what I can with you. :) When I came to the flock, Raven (the Nanday) was the oldest followed by Gandalf the Grey. They were both already 2 years old. Gandalf was a little....territorial, defensive, and sort of mean with other birds. He never liked Raven and Raven never liked him after Gandalf tried to eat Ravens face off (no matter how hard mom tried when Gandalf was a baby, he just did not like other birds), so Raven became my BFF. Sometimes Gandalf would lunge off his cage to attack us (Raven proudly defended me and got between us.) Mom keeps us well away from each other in the Aviary. So, I would say we love to hear each other and need to be within sight of each other, but Gandalf never took to any of the conures in our flock. However, because your new grey will be a baby and sweet and impressionable, you may stand a better chance being buddies with him/her. Gandalf was the 'bully' of his clutch and even at the pet store did not like other birds (even his clutch mates!) or humans. Nobody wanted to buy him because he was very aggressive. He did, however, pick our mom and loves her very much. He is tender with her and is never aggressive with her. He also loves our Daddy too. So, to make this long story hopefully not any longer (hee hee), my suggestion is to introduce the two of you when the baby comes home and see how it goes. Maybe you two will be the best of friends! I hope so. I love Gandalf because he is my flock mate, but he would seriously hurt me if he could (the bully!). All parrots are different and interact with each other differently based on their personalities.
I pretty much only like Raven. Oh,I DO have a crush on Luca (our green cheek Princess) and I will always cuddle with her! But Shhhh...don't tell anyone!
Going back to Gandalf, I can tell you I have learned a whole new langauge from him! He is a talker so we all learn to say things and once he says it, all 6 of us conures repeat it too!
I hope this helps. I will let Gandalf give his version next. :) Sorry if this was so long!
Here's another vote for you!
~ Your friend, Apollo
