Hi Hope!
What an amazing story! Mommy cried when she read about poor Blue flying to the Rainbow Bridge, but now you are with your mommy in your forever home and that's a good thing! Let me introduce myself. My name is Huey and I am the flock leader of a rather large flock of 12 birds in Minnesota. And we have something in common, you and I. I am handicapped too! One day mommy came home from working the night shift at the hospital and there I was, all puffed up with blood on my feathers by my leg. We don't know what happened exactly, but they think I got my leg caught in a toy or something. (And I'm not telling either!) Well mommy brought me right in to the hospital and they took x-rays and saw that it was broken. So they splinted it and I had to wear it for 6 weeks! Anyway, about 16 months later, mommy found another vet that she really liked that specialized in orthopedics for birds (that's legs and wings and stuff). My toe had been crooked since my accident and mommy wanted to see if we could straighten it. Well, Doc Melissa took one look at it and said "It's still broken!!" No wonder it hurt so stinkin bad for so long!! Well, mommy decided to let Doc Melissa try and fix it, so I had a big ol' surgery and they put a bunch of pins in to try and hold the bone together. I wore those pins and that cast for 9 weeks and they just finally took the pins out last week. I need to wait a couple weeks before we start doing some physical therapy, but it finally doesn't hurt so bad anymore. But my leg still is crooked, as is my toe. And I walk pretty much just on one foot and I use my beaky. So, we are like long lost handicap fiblings!! I hope you come by again very soon! I'd love to get to know you better! Have a great day my new friend!! ~Huey
